neurological conditions treated
Can Neurological Conditions Be Treated With Physical Therapy?
Neurological conditions that impact not only our nervous system but our muscular system as well are important to identify and treat. Our nervous system is the command center for how the rest of our body works and can significantly impact how our muscles fire and react to create functional movement. Nerve pain is also something that can develop over time that will significantly impact function and the ability to sustain quality of life.
What common neurological conditions do we treat?
We treat a variety of Neuromuscular conditions such as
- Parkinson’s disease
- Post CVA/stroke
- Multiple sclerosis
- Nerve injury
- Nervous system disorders like CPRS
- Ataxia
- Balance disorders
- Bells palsy and facial paralysis
- Concussion
- Nerve impingement including radiculopathy/myelopathy
- Neuropathy (diabetic/peripheral/idiopathic)
How do we treat neuromuscular conditions?
Every treatment approach towards Neuromuscular conditions must take into account which parts of the nervous system are impacted (peripheral/central) and which specific nerves are involved (peripheral nerves or spinal nerve roots). For example, if someone is having burning and tingling into the top part of their hand, we need to do a full examination into whether this is coming from a peripheral nerve such as the radial nerve or if it is coming from the nerve root coming out of your neck (C6 nerve root). This can make or break how quickly someone can recover in rehab, which is why a thorough examination is so vital.
